DESCRIPTION
The Women's Garden Dress is a relaxed fitting dress with side ties just above the waistline which can be adjusted to suit a desired silhouette. The construction of the dress features a front and back bodice filled with pin tucks, a three quarter length sleeve with pin tucks surrounding the cuff, inseam pockets, a simple slit and button loop closure at the back and a wide faced hem. There are 4 options included with this pattern; the v-neck dress with sleeves [option A] which rests just below the calf, the v-neck blouse with sleeves [option B] which rests just above the hip, the crew neck dress without sleeves [option C], and the crew neck blouse without sleeves [option D]. All options are shown in photos.

SKILL LEVEL
The Garden Dress is suitable for Intermediate level sewists and beyond. It assumes knowledge of basic sewing techniques and terminology, although most of the processes are straightforward and easy to follow. Knowledge on sewing and making alterations to a toile is also required. Techniques include transferring drill marks and fold lines onto fabric, sewing pin tucks, hand basting, bias bindings, inseam pockets, turning ties and a button loop closure.

The construction of the dress features a front and back bodice filled with pin tucks, a three quarter length sleeve with pin tucks surrounding the cuff, inseam pockets, a simple slit and button loop closure at the back and a wide faced hem.

The Garden Dress is designed for woven fabrics. If sewing French seams, we recommend using a light weight [2 to 5 oz] fabric. A cotton lawn, voile, poplin, a linen or even a silk taffeta or noil would work well. If sewing plain seams, a medium weight fabric would work [5.5 to 6 oz]. Please keep in mind, if using a mid weight fabric, the ties and button loop may be hard to turn.

Tools required to sew the Garden Dress include; a sewing machine, fabric scissors, clippers, tailor’s chalk or a heat dissolving pen, a loop turner, pins, a sewing needle and an iron.

Notions include; matching thread, 1 button that is 3/8 inch [10 mm] to 1/2 inch [12 mm] in diameter and double fold bias binding [if you choose not to make your own] that is 1/4 inch [6 mm] in finished width. A 3/16 inch [0.5 cm] width twill tape is optional if you’d like to stabilize the back slit.

Full instructions on how to print your pattern are included in the PDF instruction manual.

Layers are included within all pattern files, allowing you to select the individual size you will be sewing. Utilizing the layers option is highly recommended with this pattern.

beautiful and humbling

I made a blouse version out of an old bed sheet dyed with natural cutch dye and iron sulphate, so it became this warm grey colour, and I used a pretty blue contrasting thread. I really loved making this, even though it took me about 30 total hours of work (humbling for my 10th sewing project)! I did cheat a bit by not tying knots on pin tuck threads, but instead stay stitching with a machine, because that specific step was slowing down my motivation a lot. Can't wait to work on the dress next!! Thank you!

Love this pattern

Although I have not yet made this pattern, I have read through instructions and they are super clear and helpful. I just purchased linen fabric to make the v-neck top with sleeves. It is my current FAVORITE pattern. So stunning! It is somewhat pricier than some patterns but I loved it so much that I bought it anyway. My only recommendation is to make sure you print only your size on this layered pattern. My copy shop printed all layers (despite my specific layer request) and it is impossible to discern the different sizes in the tucked area. I’ll need to print it again at home for my size only.

Thoughtful, Classic, Beautiful!

I love this pattern. I've made it twice now in the Crew Neck Dress (Sleevless) & the Crew Neck Blouse (Sleeveless. The pattern instructional booklet is thorough & the diagrams are easy to understand. I highly recommend this pattern. The pattern explains how to do all the seams as french seams which I love. It makes the garment high end. There are lots of ways you can customise and hack this pattern & I've personally got a lot of wear out of my Garden Dress garments. I feel this is a dress I'll be wearing for many years to come.
