DESCRIPTION

The Garden Skirt is an elegant A-line midi length skirt with a fitted silhouette around the waist which billows out in the leg area. The construction of the skirt features front and back panels filled with pin tucks, princess seams, inseam pockets, an invisible zipper closure at the back, Hong Kong and French seam finishes [as well as the option for plain seams], and a wide faced hem. There are 2 options included with this pattern; the skirt with lining [option A] which features a lining that rests just above the top of a wide faced hem, and the skirt with facing [option B] which features a waist facing finished with Hong Kong binding. Both options rest above the ankle and steps for shortening or lengthening the skirt are included.

SKILL LEVEL

The Garden Skirt is suitable for Intermediate level sewists and beyond. It assumes knowledge of basic sewing techniques and terminology. Techniques include transferring drill marks and fold lines onto fabric, sewing pin tucks, Hong Kong and French seam finishes, inseam pockets, an invisible zipper closure, as well as fitting and sewing a toile.

The construction of the skirt features a front and back skirt filled with pin tucks, princess seams, inseam pockets, an invisible zipper closure at the back, Hong Kong and French seam finishes, and a wide faced hem.

The Garden Skirt is designed for woven fabrics. If sewing French seams, we recommend using a light weight [2 to 5 oz] fabric. A cotton lawn, voile, poplin, a linen or even a silk taffeta or noil would work well. If sewing plain seams, a medium weight [5.5 to 6 oz] fabric is recommended.

Tools required to sew the Garden Skirt include; a sewing machine, fabric scissors, clippers, tailor’s chalk or a heat dissolving pen, an invisible zipper foot, a narrow zipper foot, a regular foot, pins, a sewing needle and an iron.

Notions for the skirt with lining [option A] include; matching thread, 1/4 inch [6 mm] double fold bias binding [if you choose not to make your own], 1/4 inch [6 mm] width twill tape to stabilize waistline of skirt, an invisible zipper that is at least 13 inches [33 cm] in length, 1/2 inch [1.25 cm] width fusible tape to stabilize zipper area [optional] and a hook & eye closure.

Notions for the skirt with facing [option B] include; all of the notions listed above, along with a lightweight fusible interfacing for the SKIRT WAIST FACING [L] piece. NOTE: for sizes 0 to 12 you will need 0.38 yards [0.35 m] of interfacing and for sizes 14 to 26 you will need 0.5 yards [ 0.45 m].

Layers are included within all pattern files, allowing you to select the individual size you will be sewing. Utilizing the layers option is highly recommended with this pattern.
